The Mill

‘Every mountain and stream, every farm and little lane announces to the World that landscape is something different in Wales’
RS Thomas

The original watermill, set between a shallow mill pond and a busy waterfall, has been beautifully restored to provide luxury self-catering accommodation for 2-6 people. Behind a glass screen in the rustic, well-equpped kitchen are the original cogs – the pitwheel, wallower and spur wheel that were powered by the waterwheel on the outside wall. Upstairs is a comfortable living room with views toward Machynlleth, the wooden crown wheel, and shaft for the grinding stones provide an unusual centrepiece at the end of the lounge. Bed linen and towels are provided and on your arrival the fridge will be stocked with essentials to refresh you after your journey here through the stunning Welsh countryside.

The Mill has all the modern amenities as well as an outside seating area by the waterfall, BBQ facility and a large private parking area a few metres away. The Mill is an ideal base for exploring the walks, mountains and beaches of North Wales or mountain biking on the famous 15km Climachx bike trail near Machynlleth which has the longest descent in Wales and also has plenty of informal free-riding. Glyndŵr’s Way, a National Trail since 2002, passes by the Mill and a short or long walk along the trail will open up the beautiful vista of the Welsh countryside.

If you want a quiet retreat, then the Mill offers a comfortable haven of peace and tranquillity with many nearby walks for the adventurous or gentle strolls through the stunning countryside. Machynlleth, once the seat of the Welsh Parliament in 1404, is 2-3 minutes’ drive or a 30-minute walk from the Mill and offers many fine restaurants, art exhibitions, excellent shopping, cafes and pubs to visit and the popular Maengwyn Street Market every Wednesday. There is something for each member of a family to enjoy in an area popular for strenuous or easy walking, mountain biking and bird watching. Lake, river and sea fishing are all available locally
